The Credit Valley Hospital

The Credit Valley Hospital is a 366-bed community hospital providing leadership in the delivery of primary, secondary, and tertiary health care services to the people of Mississauga and the surrounding region (approximately one million people).

Mississauga is Canada’s sixth largest city with a large multicultural community.  The hospital spans approximately 770,000 square feet, and provides a broad spectrum of clinical services involving ten programs:  general medicine, surgery, renal, oncology, emergency, mental health, continuing care/rehabilitation, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics and cardiac services.  CVH provides a regional service for medical genetics, nephrology, maternal/child care and oncology.

The Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre was almost at capacity as soon as it opened its doors in the summer of 2005 because it was one of the first new cancer centres to open its doors in the Greater Toronto Area.

The new cancer centre is designed for six radiation treatment machines and currently operates four.  In the winter of 2008, Phase II of the hospital’s expansion project will begin which will provide an additional 270,000 square feet to accommodate complex continuing care, paediatrics, labour & delivery and laboratory services as well as additional inpatient beds.

London Health Sciences Centre

London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is one of Canada’s largest acute-care teaching hospitals and is dedicated to excellence in patient care, teaching and research. LHSC has pioneered many national and international medical breakthroughs.

Located in London, Ontario, LHSC encompasses three sites: South Street Hospital, University Hospital and Victoria Hospital; two family medical centres; and the London Regional Cancer Program. LHSC is the home of the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario and Canadian Surgical Technologies and Advanced Robotics (CSTAR).

LHSC provides services to the people of Southwestern Ontario, a population base of 1.8 million people, and also accepts patients from across Canada and around the world into its many specialized programs.

The London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP) at LHSC is committed to translational research that transfers and advances knowledge back and forth between the clinic and the laboratory.

Successful translational research demands close cooperation between clinical and basic researchers. Together, they identify the high priority clinical questions for study by basic scientists – questions that, if answered, will lead to reduced suffering and mortality in cancer patients. The LRCP is uniquely configured to accomplish this by bringing the cancer care program and the basic cancer research program together.
